Small Print Pizza Bar

388 High Street, Windsor

Small Print Pizza Bar is a somewhat recently opened pizza bar located just a short walk from the main Windsor and Prahran dining precinct. What sets Small Print apart from all the other high quality pizza restaurants that are popping up around Melbourne though, would definitely have to be their environmentally friendly approach. They aim to be a zero waste venue by reducing packaging where possible, while using every part of their raw ingredients, as well as composting their organic waste and using seasonal and organic produce.

 Passiona - passionfruit, pineapple and lemon

WIthout any exaggeration, Small Print's house made soft drinks are some of the best that I have ever tasted. We tried the Passiona, which is made from a house-made cordial of my favourite fruit flavours topped off with tapped sparkling water. The drink itself had an amazing, yet light flavour and also had just the right amount of sweetness, which I appreciated, as a lot of soft drinks are far too sweet for my taste.

Chorizo, asparagus and capers

The pizza topped with chorizo, asparagus and capers was the special on offer when we visited Small Print. The flavour combination was one that I have never tried before, but it was definitely satisfying. The thin crust was the perfect thickness, which is definitely hard to find as I am quite picky when it comes to pizza crusts. Apart from the crust, the ingredients were all high quality and did not have the living daylights cooked out of them, which is a fault I find in a lot of other pizzas.

If you are an environmentally conscious person who loves pizza, as well as small charming venues, then Small Print Pizza Bar is definitely a place you should be looking to visit. Their friendly staff will definitely make you feel welcome!

Zero95

904 Doncaster Road, Doncaster East

Having won the title of "Best Napoli style pizza in the world" in 2016, Zero95 is undoubtedly the place to go for high quality pizza in Melbourne. I have the luck of living quite close to Zero95, so have been visiting for quite a while and we all know nothing can satisfy a craving as much as pizza.

Home-made gnocchi alla Sorrentina $26.00

The Gnocchi alla Sorrentina is one of my favourite non-pizza dishes served at Zero95. The fluffy and perfectly cooked potato gnocchi is complemented with the well seasoned tomato sauce and cheese, to make a great dish. Although the dish was quite expensive it is definitely worth it.

Margherita $18.50

Although I have visited Zero95 multiple times in the past, getting to try the winner of the best margherita pizza in the world is something that always excites me. Traditional Napoli style pizza is strictly defined by multiple rules, including being baked for 60-90 seconds in a 485°C stone oven with an oak wood fire. The cooking process makes it so the pizza is softer and more elastic than other types. Although I enjoy the softer base of the Napoli style pizza, our visit to Zero95 this time included a pizza with a base that was softer than usual. This made it so it was difficult to eat the pizza, although the toppings were still of an amazing quality.

I would definitely recommend a visit the Zero95 if you are a lover of pizza. Although our visit this time was slightly worse than usual, we still had a great time. Apart from the food the staff are amazing and if you are lucky you might see the world champion at work!

Pizza Heart

Pizza Heart is a small pizza shop located in the Kerrimuir locality in Box Hill. Pizza Heart is one of the closest local pizza shops in my area, so I have been visiting them for quite a few years now. I decided visit Pizza Heart for an after dinner snack and even though they were closing, they let us in and prepared a pizza for us.

Supreme family pizza $22.50

I usually only order two types of pizza, Margherita when visiting a traditional Italian pizza shop and the supreme pizza from other restaurants. The supreme pizza at Pizza Heart had a good amount of topping and a nice and crispy base, albeit slightly thicker than I would have liked. There was a large amount of olives which I personally enjoyed, however it did leave the pizza a little salty.

11 Inch Pizza

5B, 353-359 Little Collins Street, Melbourne

As you may have already guessed from the name, 11 inch pizza is a restaurant that specialises mainly in pizzas, but also has other Italian classics such as calzones and foccacias. Being hidden down one of Melbourne's laneways made it slightly difficult but also exciting find, as the bustling lunchtime crowd and lovely aromas of pizza drew me in.

Margherita $15.90

Whenever I go to a new pizza restaurant I always try their Margherita pizza before anything else. Although the Margherita pizza is the most typical type of pizza served nowadays, as well as a being a more basic type of pizza, it is by no means easy to perfect. The Margherita at 11 inch pizza was possibly one of the best pizzas that I have had  based on my recent memory. The base was thin and crisp which held the flavourful sauce and cheese well, which combined with the balance of the toppings and slight drizzling of olive oil on top made for a wonderful eating experience. 

Although the service was a bit lacking as they were very busy during their lunch hours, I still enjoyed the experience very much and would definitely come back for some of their other offerings.
