Little Africa

358 Victoria Street, North Melbourne

Little Africa is a restaurant that I have been recommended by friends and online reviews alike. A small Ethopian restaurant known for their authentic use of traditional spice combinations and large servings of hearty Ethopian food, Little Africa has often garnered high praise from their customers.

Small restaurant

Cosy atmosphere and decor

Dorho aletcha  $18

The Dorho aletcha we ordered is originally a dish of cubed chicken breast marinated with spices and peppers, but we were informed as we were ordering that the dish would be made of chicken thigh instead of breast.

Meat combination of the day $25

The meat combination of the day included a mixture of meats including chicken, lamb and fish as well as servings of vegetable including peppers, lentils, pumpkin and a garden salad. The food on both the dishes was seasoned very well with wonderful flavours created with the use of their combination of spices. The meat however was overcooked causing the lamb and chicken to be relatively dry. This, however did not affect the vegetarian options in the meat combination of the day as I loved those and could not find fault with them.

The service was also slightly lacking as there were only two people working there and they were very busy. The person serving us attempted to bring out all the food at the same time causing the injera bread to rub on his clothing which was a bit off-putting.

There were a couple of lapses during the night, however I would love to come back at a time where they are less busy as I loved the flavours and have heard so much high praise about the restaurant.
